A national committee will be created for this purpose, Venezuela’s authorized President said

CARACAS, January 17. /TASS/. Venezuela’s authorized President Delcy Rodriguez has announced plans to protect the country's economic rights globally and develop national production.

"We want to create a national committee for the defense of Venezuela's economic rights in the world, which will represent the national executive power and private sectors such as oil, agri-food, industrial, commercial, public utilities, banking, and oil exports," she said at a meeting of the productive economy council broadcast by the Venezolana de Television TV channel.

Rodriguez pointed to the need to focus on national production, "in which the public and private sectors act in concert to follow the development of 14 engines of the economy," and to carry out strategic import substitution. Revenues from sales of oil, the production of which has reached 1.2 mln barrels per day, will be channeled through the Central Bank of Venezuela to private banks, which will facilitate the operation of the foreign exchange market, she noted. The official also pointed out the need for effective currency management.

Venezuela is not afraid to establish economic relations with the United States, she said. "We are considering cooperation in energy, trade, and economic matters in various aspects, and this bilateral economic agenda must serve the interests of the Venezuelan people," Rodriguez emphasized.

She confirmed that the country will follow Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro's 2018 program of economic recovery, prosperity, and growth.

On January 3, the United States attacked civilian and military targets in Venezuela. The Foreign Minister of the Bolivarian Republic Yvan Gil Pinto said called Washington's actions military aggression. A state of emergency was declared in the country. US President Donald Trump confirmed the strikes on Venezuelan territory. Washington carried out an operation to capture and remove Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, from the country.
