Israeli Cabinet to go over Gaza agreements at 3 p.m. GMT
The office of the head of the Israeli government has not yet commented on the situation regarding the implementation of a ceasefire in Gaza
TEL AVIV, October 9. /TASS/. The Israeli government will convene a meeting to discuss the settlement plan for the Gaza Strip at 6 p.m. Moscow time [3 p.m. GMT], the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told TASS.
The meeting will focus on one thing: "The plan for the release of all hostages." Meanwhile, the office of the head of the Israeli government has not yet commented on the situation regarding the implementation of a ceasefire in Gaza.
"The government meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. [3 p.m. GMT]. All decisions will be made during it," a source in the Prime Minister's office noted, adding that regarding the ceasefire, "there are no statements at this time."
Earlier, US President Donald Trump stated that representatives of Israel and Hamas had signed agreements on the first stage of the peace plan following negotiations in Egypt. According to Trump, this includes the release of all hostages in the near future and the withdrawal of Israeli troops to an agreed line within the Gaza Strip. He added that the first steps have been taken "toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace."
Immediately after this, Netanyahu called Trump, thanked him for his mediation, invited him to visit Israel, and announced that he would soon convene a cabinet meeting to approve the agreements on the first stage of the peace plan.
Earlier on Thursday, the Egyptian television channel "Al-Qahera Al-Ikhbariya" and the Israeli portal Ynet reported that the ceasefire regime came into effect on Thursday at 12 p.m. Moscow time [9 a.m. GMT]. Later, The Times of Israel, citing Netanyahu's office, clarified that the ceasefire in Gaza would only take effect after the agreements were approved by the Israeli cabinet later on Thursday.
