MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. The European Union’s curators of Moldovan President Maia Sandu’s government have demanded that Russia be officially designated a threat in exchange for their continued support, Marina Tauber, one of the leaders of Moldova’s opposition Victory bloc, told TASS.

"We have witnessed yet another crime committed by the Sandu regime against its own country. The government has officially approved Moldova’s military strategy through 2035. It may seem like just another document, but no — it is a manifesto rejecting peace, neutrality, and the future of our country," she said.

Tauber emphasized that for the first time in the history of independent Moldova, Chisinau has described the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Transnistria as a "military threat." "These are the very same peacekeepers who prevented Moldova from repeating the fate of Donbass, and now they have suddenly become enemies. Why? Because Brussels and Maia Sandu’s curators say so," she continued.

"My colleagues in the Victory bloc and I have long warned that EU support is far from free. And now, a week after the elections, Russia has been officially declared a threat. The next step is to involve our country in a war. Nothing in this world comes for free," Tauber added.

On October 8, the Moldovan government adopted a new military strategy naming Russia and the peacekeeping forces in Transnistria as security threats and outlining plans to raise defense spending to at least 1% of GDP.
