Israel, Hamas sign accords on first phase of peace plan, Trump says
All hostages will be released, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed upon line, the US President emphasized
WASHINGTON, October 9. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump said that representatives of Israel and the radical Palestinian movement Hamas have signed agreements on the first stage of the peace plan.
"I am very proud to announce that Israel and Hamas have both signed off on the first phase of our peace plan. This means that all of the hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a strong, durable, and everlasting peace," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
According to him, "all parties will be treated fairly." The US leader also expressed his gratitude to the mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey.
Earlier on Wednesday, Trump said he may visit the Middle East on October 11 or 12 for talks on resolving the situation in the region. He suggested that he may also visit the Gaza Strip as part of the visit.
On September 29, the White House released Trump’s "comprehensive plan" aimed at resolving the conflict in the Gaza Strip. The 20 paragraph-document provides for the introduction of temporary external control in the Palestinian enclave and the deployment of an international stabilization force there. Israel agreed with the plan. The Palestinian Hamas movement said it was ready to release all living Israeli hostages held in Gaza and hand over the bodies of the dead.
On October 6, indirect talks between the Israeli and Hamas delegations resumed mediated by Egypt and Qatar. The United States is represented by special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner.
