Trump states he will attend activist Kirk’s funeral in Arizona
The US President noted that Charlie Kirk played a significant role in terms of conducting election campaigning among youth
WASHINGTON, September 12. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump announced that he will attend the funeral of American political activist Charlie Kirk, who was killed in the state of Utah.
The head of the Washington administration affirmed his attendance when asked whether he would go to the funeral. "I'm going to go to Charlie's funeral in Arizona, and they've asked me to go, and I think I have an obligation to do so," he added while responding to journalists’ questions on the South Lawn of the White House on Thursday. According to the US President, the funeral will take place "next weekend." He did not specify an exact date.
Trump noted that Kirk played a significant role in terms of conducting election campaigning among youth. "He got along with young people. I've never seen anything like it and then he really helped me a lot," the American leader explained. Trump described Kirk as a "big factor" in his ability to secure youth support in the presidential election.
Kirk, 31, was shot on Wednesday while delivering a speech at a university in Orem, Utah. He later died in the hospital from his wound. A supporter of US President Donald Trump, Kirk was credited by the Associated Press with contributing significantly to Trump’s most recent election victory. He had also repeatedly spoken out against US military aid to Ukraine. His killer is still loose.
