IDF calls up 60,000 reservists for next Gaza operation
In addition, 20,000 reservists who have already been called up will receive a notice extending their current orders
TEL AVIV, August 20. /TASS/. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has mobilized 60,000 reservists and extended the service of an additional 20,000 personnel ahead of Gideon’s Chariots II in Gaza City, the army press service reported.
"As part of the preparations for the next phase of Operation ‘Gideon’s Chariots’, approximately 60,000 reserve orders were issued this morning (August 20 — TASS). In addition, 20,000 reservists who have already been called up will receive a notice extending their current orders," the statement reads.
The press service also noted that "the decision regarding the reserves was made after in-depth discussions on the extent of manpower required for the continuation of combat and was approved by the Minister of Defense."
According to The Times of Israel, reservists who receive summonses may be given up to two weeks to prepare. On Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz approved a plan to capture Gaza City. The Kan state broadcaster reported that the operation has been named Gideon’s Chariots II.
