NEW YORK, June 6. /TASS/. Most US residents are not ready to voice their support for either side in the public dispute between US President Donald Trump and billionaire and former Head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) Elon Musk, the results of a survey conducted by the YouGov research service showed.

The poll was carried out on June 5, covering 3,800 adult US residents.

The survey revealed that 52% of Americans do not sympathize with either side of the feud. At the same time, 28% of US citizens expressed support for Trump, while 8% of the country's residents sided with Musk. Another 11% of respondents were unable to form an opinion on the public conflict.

Among supporters of the US Republican Party, 71% of respondents sympathize with Trump, while 6% are on Musk's side. With Democrats, 11% back Musk and 4% stand with the US leader, but 80% are not on either side. The same goes for independent voters, most of whom back neither the president, nor the billionaire (59%). Only 18% of them side with Trump, and another 8% — with the owner of SpaceX and X social network.

Within the same survey, 41% of Americans stated that they would support cutting federal subsidies for Musk's companies, primarily SpaceX and Tesla, and 21% of respondents opposed such measures. Another 38% of poll participants took a neutral position on this issue.

As for the further development of the conflict, 28% of Americans believe that Trump and Musk will sooner or later reconcile and continue their cooperation. On the contrary, 31% of US residents expect that the president and businessman will never work together again. Forty-one percent of respondents were unable to assess the prospects for the confrontation between Trump and Musk.

At the same time, 35% of US citizens believe that the country would benefit from cooperation between the two public figures, while another 31% think that it is the conflict between Trump and Musk that will be beneficial for the United States.

Trump-Musk standoff

On Thursday, Musk and Trump exchanged a series of barbed remarks. The tech mogul claimed Trump would not have won the 2024 election without his support, endorsed impeaching the current head of state, criticized the import tariffs introduced by the US leader, and warned of a US recession in late 2025. In turn, Trump accused Musk of failing his duties in government efficiency reforms (DOGE) and "just going crazy," and threatened to cancel SpaceX contracts and revoke subsidies.
