Vietnam interested in strengthening security partnership with Russia — Deputy PM

Bui Thanh Son pointed out that the countries need to "renew the main impulses of cooperation" in trade, investment, education, training and culture

MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Strengthening security cooperation between Vietnam and Russia is in Hanoi's interest, such partnership will contribute to stability in the region and the world, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and top diplomat Bui Thanh Son said at a press conference following talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

"We will also strengthen defense and security cooperation. This is in our interest and will also contribute to peace and stability in the region and the world," he said.

Bui Thanh Son added that Vietnam and Russia intend to work closely together to, among other things, resolve difficulties that still exist in bilateral relations. The deputy prime minister also pointed out that the countries need to "renew the main impulses of cooperation" in trade, investment, education, training and culture. He noted that such an approach would help bring the partnership with Russia to a qualitatively new level.

"We also greatly appreciate the close interaction between the two foreign ministries in recent times. This has contributed to a steady improvement in the quality of cooperation between our two countries. And we have agreed that we will continue to work together on bilateral issues in a spirit of special trust," the top diplomat emphasized.
