UN, March 18. /TASS/. The Islamic Republic of Iran condemns the US’ belligerent rhetoric and resolutely rejects statements by US President Donald Trump and his administration on Tehran’s alleged involvement in attacks by Yemen’s Houthi rebels from the Ansar Allah movement, according to a letter by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, to the Security Council chief and UN Secretary-General.

"I wish to express my deep concern and unequivocal condemnation of recent belligerent statements by senior officials of the United States administration, including the president of the United States, while they were attempting desperately to unlawfully justify the US' acts of aggression and war crimes against Yemen, leveling baseless accusations against the Islamic Republic of Iran and openly threatening the use of force against Iran," according to the letter provided by Iran’s permanent mission to the UN to TASS.

Iran "has never been involved in any activities inconsistent with the provisions of relevant Security Council resolutions on Yemen," Iravani noted. "Iran strongly and categorically rejects any accusation on the violation of relevant Security Council resolutions on arms embargoes in Yemen or involvement in any destabilizing activities in the [Middle Eastern] region," he stressed in the letter.

On March 15, the US started to carry out massive strikes on Houthi facilities in Yemen based on an order from Trump. The US Central Command said that the goal was to defend American interests and restore freedom of navigation. In response, the Ansar Allah movement twice attacked the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern part of the Red Sea, using missiles and drones. According to the latest data from the Houthi health ministry, the US strikes on Yemen have killed 53 people and left at least 98 wounded.
