Confiscation of Russian assets in EU poses threat to European assets in Russia — Le Pen
According to Le Pen, the third reason why Russian assets should not be confiscated is that this will pose a threat to the EU's holdings in the Russian Federation
PARIS, March 13. /TASS/. The confiscation of frozen Russian assets in the EU would not only violate international law, but would also pose a threat to European investments in the Russian Federation, the leader of France’s National Rally parliamentary faction, Marine Le Pen, voiced this opinion on the air of the CNews TV channel.
"Firstly, this is prohibited from the point of view of international law. Secondly, and here I share the opinion of French President Emmanuel Macron, if you start doing this, you risk losing all capital in the country," she noted.
According to Le Pen, the third reason why Russian assets should not be confiscated is that this will pose a threat to the EU's holdings in the Russian Federation. "How many EU investments are in Russia? A total of 12 billion euros, I think," she said.
Earlier, the National Assembly (lower house of the French parliament) adopted a resolution in support of Ukraine with a call to send frozen Russian assets to help Kiev. The National Rally faction abstained from voting.
The French government has repeatedly stated that it opposes the seizure of frozen Russian assets, as this would be a serious violation of international law.
