Ukraine will not suspend mobilization if 30-day ceasefire is declared, lawmaker says
Negotiations between the delegations of the United States and Ukraine took place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on March 11
MOSCOW, March 12. /TASS/. Kiev will neither suspend mobilization nor lift the martial law if a 30-day ceasefire is announced based on an initiative put forward at a Ukraine-US meeting in Jeddah on March 11, said Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Ukrainian Parliamentary Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.
"We are talking about the possibility of a 30-day ceasefire, so lifting the martial law and suspending the mobilization campaign is out of the question," the Zerkalo Nedeli news outlet quoted Kostenko as saying.
Negotiations between the delegations of the United States and Ukraine took place in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on March 11. They lasted about 9.5 hours. Following the talks, a joint statement was published on Vladimir Zelensky's website, according to which Ukraine is ready to accept a US proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, while Washington will immediately lift the pause in providing intelligence and resume assistance to Kiev. The parties also agreed to sign a minerals deal as soon as possible.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peslov warned against "rushing things" in terms of Russia’s response to the ceasefire initiative. Russian President Vladimit Putin noted earlier that a solution to the Ukraine conflict should lead to lasting peace rather than a brief respite.
