Washington ignores Kiev’s demand for security guarantees — newspaper

BERLIN, March 12. /TASS/. The US ignored Ukraine’s demand for security guarantees in the talks held in Saudi Arabia, Germany’s Die Welt newspaper writes.
According to the paper, the agreement reached by the parties does not reflect Ukraine’s key demand for security guarantees. Kiev’s negotiating team only managed to make sure that talks on "Ukraine’s long-term security" would begin "immediately." Die Welt notes that the document highlights a decision on the development of Ukraine’s mineral resources, which would compensate for the costs of US assistance to Ukraine.
On March 11, the Saudi city of Jeddah hosted talks between the United States and Ukraine, which lasted for almost nine and a half hours. After the meeting, Vladimir Zelensky’s office released a joint statement saying that Kiev supports Washington’s idea for a 30-day ceasefire. The US promised to lift its pause on intelligence sharing with Ukraine and resume military aid to Kiev. The statement adds that the parties had "agreed to conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement for developing Ukraine’s critical mineral resources to expand Ukraine’s economy."
Ukrainian presidential office head Andrey Yermak said after the meeting the minerals deal would be signed when the US found it convenient.
