Two ships collide off UK, leaving 32 people injured — report
The tanker, according to Sky News, may have been used to deliver fuel to US military bases in the UK
LONDON, March 10. /TASS/. At least 32 crew members were injured as a tanker collided with a cargo ship in the North Sea off the UK coast, Sky News reported, citing Martyn Boyers, chief executive of the Port of Grimsby East where the casualties were brought.
"There was a line of ambulances waiting to take them to Princess Diana hospital," he said.
According to the report, it is not yet clear how severe their injuries are. There is also no verified data on the exact number of people who were on board the ships: the US-flagged oil tanker Stena Immaculate, which was anchored at the time of the accident, and the container ship Solong sailing under the Portuguese flag, which was in motion before the crash. BBC reported that all crew members aboard the Stena Immaculate have been rescued.
The tanker, according to Sky News, may have been used to deliver fuel to US military bases in the UK. Initially, the Mirror wrote that it was filled with jet fuel. Reuters later reported that the tanker was not fully loaded.
According to the Guardian, the Stena Immaculate is 183 meters long, while the Solong is 140 meters long. A Port of Grimsby East spokesperson said the sea at the time of the collision was quite calm and wave heights did not exceed two meters, but visibility was limited due to fog.
