Georgia asks Baltic states to stop involving others in confronting Russia — speaker
Shalva Papuashvili emphasized that these three post-Soviet countries want Georgia to be a tool and a means against Russia
TBILISI, March 7. /TASS/. The Baltic states should address their concerns about Russia themselves rather than trying to involve other countries in confrontation, Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili said at a press conference.
"There is only one way the authorities of these three countries are interested in Georgia. They want us to be a tool and a means against Russia. These three post-Soviet countries have their own fears regarding Russia. Instead of standing firm against these fears and openly confronting if necessary, they are trying to use other states to make Russia focus its attention on other issues," Papuashvili said.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said on March 3 that Tallinn had imposed a ban on entry to the country for 55 representatives of Georgian authorities. According to a statement published on the Estonian Foreign Ministry's website, the list includes representatives of the Georgian authorities allegedly "responsible for the prosecution of protesters by the judicial system and law enforcement agencies." The listed Georgian individuals "have either taken part in violence or threatened it," the statement reads. Latvia and Lithuania have joined the restrictive measures against the Georgian authorities.
