According to Lejone Mpotjoane, Lesotho has already felt the impact of reduced financing on the part of the US because the country’s health care depends on it but the government is seeking ways to become more self-sufficient

NAIROBI, March 6. /TASS/. Lesotho’s Foreign Minister Lejone Mpotjoane has said that he was insulted by remarks by US President Donald Trump that "nobody has ever heard of" Lesotho and invited the US leader for a visit.

Earlier, addressing US Congress, Trump said that millions of dollars were spent to promote the LGBT movement (considered extremist and banned in Russia) in the South African country of Lesotho, "which nobody has ever heard of."

Lesotho’s top diplomat branded this remark by the US leader as insulting. "I'm really shocked that my country can be referred to like that by the head of state," he told Reuters. "Lesotho is such a significant and unique country in the whole world. I would be happy to invite the president, as well as the rest of the world to come to Lesotho," Mpotjoane added. He noted that the United States had also provided crucial funding for the country's healthcare and agriculture sectors.

According to the foreign minister, Lesotho has already felt the impact of reduced financing on the part of the US because the country’s health care depends on it but the government is seeking ways to become more self-sufficient.

"We have to accept that," Mpotjoane said about the US leader’s decision to cut financial aid to Lesotho. "But to refer to my country like that, it is quite unfortunate," he added.

Lesotho, a mountainous nation of about 2 million people in Africa’s south, is sometimes called The Kingdom in the Sky, because it has the highest base altitude of any country, with its lowest point at 1,400 m (4,593 ft).
