MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada member Maxim Buzhansky, who represents the ruling Servant of the People party, has denounced remarks by French President Emmanuel Macron, stressing that the nuclear umbrella might not materialize in the "shaking hands" of the French leader.

"Macron somewhat resembles a Facebook patriot (Facebook is prohibited in Russia due to its ownership by Meta, which has been designated as extremist - TASS), who has been avoiding mobilization the entire war and, sensing its imminent end, boastfully says that he also got enlisted so he’ll be able to say later that he also fought in the war. Firmly counting on not making it to the frontline in time," the lawmaker wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, to some in Ukraine, nowadays Macron looks like a "beacon of hope," however, this has nothing to do with the actual state of affairs.

"Traditionally, every New Year’s day, crowds of angry migrants are burning and destroying hundreds of cars of ordinary law-abiding Parisian taxpayers on the streets of Paris. And no one has ever stirred a finger to try to end this. Basically, the nuclear umbrella in shaking hands might not activate," he concluded.

Earlier, Macron, in his address to the nation, mentioned growing threats to Europe and France, including purportedly coming from Russia. This way, he justified the need to increase the country’s defense spending beyond the previously approved budget. He also asserted the intention to continue support for Ukraine in its conflict with Russia and vowed to initiate a discussion on spreading the operations of the national nuclear containment forces to other European countries after Friedrich Merz, German chancellor candidate, urged doing so.
