Ukraine may face weapons shortage soon without US aid — expert
Alexander Stepanov said there was a high probability of complete paralysis of Ukraine’s UAV control systems
MOSCOW, March 5. /TASS/. Ukraine’s army may experience a deficit of weaponry in just a few months in the absence of US assistance, military expert Alexander Stepanov said in a column he contributed to TASS.
"It is obvious that without the support of the United States, the Zelensky regime will face serious problems in a few months. Limited ammunition stocks, equipment wear and tear, and dependence on satellite communications and intelligence complicate the situation," said Stepanov, a program director of the Academy of Political Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Latin America of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
"At the same time, the European allies will not be able to fully compensate for the loss of American aid. Given the close affiliation between [Elon] Musk and the current Trump administration, a decision to disable Starlink may be upcoming."
He said there is a high probability of complete paralysis of Ukraine’s UAV control systems. Restrictions may also apply to US intelligence data. According to Stepanov, this will primarily affect space satellite reconnaissance, whose data was transmitted by US private space companies.
Stepanov claims that without new supplies, Ukrainian artillery may soon be left without ammunition. The effectiveness of the HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems supplied by the US will also decrease. Also, the entire Ukrainian air defense and missile defense system will be paralyzed. Kiev will be left without ammunition to cover the sky, he added.
"It is obvious that termination of the US military assistance will cause significant damage to the potential of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and there is obviously no reason to talk about a long-term possibility of resisting the intense pressure of the Russian armed forces," the expert concluded.
