WASHINGTON, March 5. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump shared plans for the United States to develop a missile defense shield dubbed "the Golden Dome."
"As commander-in-chief, my focus is on building the most powerful military of the future. As a first step, I am asking Congress to fund a state-of-the-art Golden Dome missile defense shield to protect our homeland, all made in the US," he said in a speech to Congress.
Trump emphasized that US President Ronald Reagan (in office from 1981 to 1989) had plans to create such a missile defense system, but the technologies of the time did not allow the project to be implemented. "But now we have the technology. It’s incredible, actually," the US leader added. "And other places — they have it, Israel has it. Other places have it. And the United States should have it too, right?" he said.
"But it’s a very, very important — this is a very dangerous world — we should have it. We want to be protected, and we are going to protect our citizens like never before," Trump concluded.
