White House spokeswoman says up to Trump to decide to resume military aid to Ukraine
"President Trump wants to make a deal, and unfortunately, it has appeared thus far that President Zelensky is unwilling to talk about a real peace agreement," Karoline Leavitt stated
NEW YORK, March 4. /TASS/. The decision whether to resume Washington's military assistance to Kiev ultimately rests with US President Donald Trump, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News.
"That's up to President Trump to decide," she said when asked whether a call from Vladimir Zelensky could prompt a resumption of the aid. "President Trump wants to make a deal, and unfortunately, it has appeared thus far that President Zelensky is unwilling to talk about a real peace agreement."
According to the spokeswoman, Trump brought Zelensky an economic deal "on a silver platter" to sign at the White House on Friday, which would have had far-reaching effects.
"It would have been a lifeline for President Zelensky and his country," she said.
On March 3, Reuters reported, citing a White House official, that Trump had issued an order to suspend all supplies of military aid to Kiev. A Pentagon spokesman confirmed this to TASS, saying the suspension affects all military equipment that is not already inside Ukraine, including weapons currently in transit by plane or ship, or being scheduled for shipment out of transportation hubs in Poland.
On February 28, Zelensky met with Trump at the White House. Their televised exchange suddenly unraveled into a shouting match, with Trump scolding Zelensky for being disrespectful to the US, and Vice President JD Vance saying that Zelensky had never thanked the country for all the support provided to Kiev. A news conference scheduled to follow the meeting was canceled. The US and Ukraine didn’t sign the deal on minerals. The US president afterward stated that Zelensky had been disrespectful and not ready for peace.
