Serbian opposition attempts to disrupt parliament session with smoke bombs
Serbian students and opposition groups have been demonstrating in Novi Sad, Belgrade, and other cities since last November
BELGRADE, March 4. /TASS/. Deputies from the opposition parties attempted to disrupt a meeting of the National Assembly (unicameral parliament) of Serbia by initiating a fight and tossing pyrotechnic devices, Tanjug news agency reported.
Radomir Lazovic, a deputy from the Left-Green Front party, cut in line at the rostrum. The security service tried to stop him, after which a scuffle broke out. Opposition representatives ignited colored smoke bombs and unfurled a banner calling for the ousting of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic. Deputies from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party countered by unfurling the country's national flags.
Serbian students and opposition groups have been demonstrating in Novi Sad, Belgrade, and other cities since last November. They demand accountability for those responsible for the deaths of 15 people killed when a roof over the entrance to the railway station in Novi Sad collapsed on November 1.
