MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russia firmly rejects a potential deployment of European peacekeeping forces in Ukraine, especially after the leadership of the European Union adopted an antagonistic stance toward Moscow, BelTA news agency reported on Thursday, citing President Alexander Lukashenko.

"As for sending peacekeeping forces there [to Ukraine], Russia will never agree to this," the agency quoted Lukashenko as saying in an interview with American blogger Mario Nawfal.

"At least, this is Russia's position today. Especially since the leadership of the European Union, primarily represented by Germany and France, is taking a very aggressive position at the moment," the Belarusian president said.

"So, Russia is categorically against any peacekeeping forces from European states," Lukashenko added.

The Wall Street Journal earlier reported, citing sources, that UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on February 27 could provide Trump with a draft plan to deploy UK and French peacekeepers to Ukraine.

According to the report, London and Paris would like to receive fire support from Washington if their peacekeepers end up in harm’s way. As part of the plan, Paris and London want to use ground forces, aviation, and the navy.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated earlier that Russia opposes the idea of a European peacekeeping mission in Ukraine and would view its deployment as a step toward escalation.
