BUDAPEST, February 26. /TASS/. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said a deal between Russia and the US would be the only pathway to peace in Ukraine.

He made the statement following a virtual meeting that EU leaders convened to prepare for an EU summit scheduled for March 6 in Brussels.

"The US and Russia are now holding talks on a major bilateral deal. It is in Hungary's interest that these negotiations are successful, because for three years now we have been saying that the path to peace lies through a US-Russian agreement," the minister wrote on Facebook (banned in Russia as it's owned by Meta Corporation, which is designated an extremist organization in Russia).

Attached to the post are photos showing Szijjarto and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban in an office as they are taking part in the virtual meeting, which was convened by European Council President Antonio Costa. Orban met with Costa in Budapest on Tuesday to discuss preparations for the EU summit, which aims to focus on European defense and security, considering the conflict in Ukraine.
