Lavrov did not convey any messages from US, says top Iranian diplomat
Abbas Araghchi pointed out that despite having endured US sanctions for years, Tehran "has outlined its own path of advancement, paying no attention to any restrictions"
DUBAI, February 26. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov did not pass on any messages from the US to Tehran, top Iranian diplomat Abbas Araghchi stated.
"Mr. Lavrov shared with us the details about Russia’s talks with the US, as well as its communications with the countries of the region. However, no messages were conveyed at the meeting, and there had been no agreement for such a message to be conveyed," Araghchi told reporters after an Iranian cabinet meeting, according to a SNN broadcast.
The top Iranian diplomat pointed out that despite having endured US sanctions for years, Tehran "has outlined its own path of advancement, paying no attention to any restrictions."
Lavrov held talks with his Iranian counterpart and the country’s President Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran on February 25. The Russian foreign minister said following his meeting with Araghchi that he had briefed Iran on the Russia-US meeting on Ukraine in Riyadh.
Russian and US delegations held talks in Riyadh on February 18, which lasted over four hours. Russia was represented by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov, and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) Kirill Dmitriev. The US delegation consisted of Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
