First school reopens in Gaza for first time in 15 months — TV
According to the broadcaster, more than 300 children were in attendance at a school in Gaza City as it reopened amid the ceasefire
DUBAI, February 24. /TASS/. A school has reopened in the Gaza Strip for the first time in 15 months, the Qatar-based Al Jazeera TV channel reported.
According to the broadcaster, more than 300 children were in attendance at a school in Gaza City as it reopened amid the ceasefire.
Al Jazeera points out that the majority of schools in the enclave have been destroyed by Israeli air raids since October 2023, while many families with children have left their homes, becoming refugees.
Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian movement Hamas staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from Gaza, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking hostages. In response, Israel launched a military operation in the Palestinian enclave. Military activities continued until January 19, 2025, when a ceasefire took effect in Gaza based on an Israel-Hamas agreement brokered by Egypt, Qatar and the US.
