EU not worth seat in Ukraine peace talks — Polish presidential candidate
Karol Nawrocki emphasized that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had not been able to influence the situation in any way before, and French President Emmanuel Macron "did not invite anyone to talks with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin himself"
MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. The EU, as well as the leading nations of the association, such as France and Germany, do not deserve a seat at the negotiating table for a peaceful settlement in Ukraine, said Polish presidential candidate from the opposition Law and Justice party Karol Nawrocki.
"This is just a reflection of the true power of the European Union on the global strategic stage. The EU is in disarray," Nawrocki said in an interview with the Wirtualna Polska portal.
The politician cannot envision the leaders of France and Germany at the negotiating table. He emphasizes that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had not been able to influence the situation in any way before, and French President Emmanuel Macron "did not invite anyone to talks with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin himself."
However, Nawrocki believes that apart from Russia, Ukraine, and the US, Warsaw could take part in the peace talks. "We have accepted more than a million refugees, the President of [Poland] Andrzej Duda defended Ukraine's interests all over the world, and we have transferred a substantial amount of equipment to Ukraine," he explained.
On February 16, US special envoy for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg, who took part in the Munich Security Conference, said that the EU would not be present at the negotiating table on the Ukrainian settlement, but its interests would be taken into account. This caused serious alarm in the European capitals, and later Kellogg tried to reassure the allies by familiarizing them with US tactics in negotiations, where the US intends to mediate between Russia and Ukraine.
