The Daily Telegraph emphasized that only one European official was aware that Donald Trump intended to hold a conversation with Vladimir Putin

LONDON, February 17. /TASS/. A telephone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump has thrown European leaders into "pandemonium," The Daily Telegraph reported.

According to the newspaper, European leaders "desperately tried to work out where Trump’s gambit <...> left the future of Ukraine, its allies and the continent itself."

The Daily Telegraph also emphasized that only one European official was aware that Trump intended to hold a conversation with Putin. According to the newspaper, this was NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who had previously earned a reputation as the "Trump whisperer."

On February 12, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump held a telephone conversation. They discussed the issue of cessation of hostilities in Ukraine, bilateral relations and a number of other issues. The sides also agreed to continue contacts and organize a face-to-face meeting. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov emphasized that the phone conversation between the two leaders was "constructive, working, friendly."
