Ukraine gets proposed US deal on minerals
Zelensky expressed hope that the agreement would be signed at or before the Munich Security Conference, which will take place from February 14-16
MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/. Kiev has received a proposed US deal to use Ukrainian rare-earth minerals, Vladimir Zelensky said at a news conference following a meeting with visiting US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
"I know that our team has been handed the first draft of the document from the United States of America on the partnership between our countries," he said. "We received this document today. We will study it and do everything so that our teams can indeed very quickly reach an agreement and sign this document."
Zelensky expressed hope that the agreement would be signed at or before the Munich Security Conference, which will take place from February 14-16.
"We do not want to waste time," he said.
In early February, US President Donald Trump said America is interested in obtaining rare-earth metals from Ukraine. Zelensky later said that large deposits of minerals and rare-earth metals being offered to Washington are located in areas outside Kiev's control. In an interview with Reuters, Zelensky said he was ready to offer Trump Ukrainian minerals and underground gas storage sites in exchange for security guarantees.
