ASHGABAT, February 11. /TASS/. An agreement on the international transit and transport route Caspian Sea-Black Sea with the participation of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania will be signed this year, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry reported following a four-party working meeting.
"The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and other ministries and departments of Turkmenistan, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania responsible for the transport sector. During the meeting, issues related to increasing cargo transportation and stimulating cooperation with all interested parties, including the European Union, were discussed," the ministry said.
"The parties noted the expected positive effect in trade relations of all project participants, as well as the importance of involving international organizations in the field of cargo transportation to connect European and Asian markets," the ministry added.
In 2018, at a meeting of the Turkmen-Romanian working group on transport, held in the city of Turkmenbashi, a proposal was made to create a new international transport route that should connect the Caspian and Black Seas through Azerbaijan and Georgia. The Romanian port of Constanta on the Black Sea and the international seaport of Turkmenbashi are expected to be important points on the route.
