Azerbaijan calls Armenia’s accusations of readying attack groundless

According to Ayhan Hajizadeh, Yerevan, despite its obligations under a 2020 trilateral declaration, maintained more than 10,000 troops in Azerbaijan over the next three years

BAKU, February 11. /TASS/. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that Baku is preparing an attack on Armenia is baseless and misleading, Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said.

"The February 10, 2025 publication by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the Armenpress portal contains numerous groundless accusations that distort reality and mislead the world community," Foreign Ministry spokesman Ayhan Hajizadeh said in a comment.

According to Hajizadeh, Yerevan, despite its obligations under a 2020 trilateral declaration, maintained more than 10,000 troops in Azerbaijan over the next three years. Also, Armenia's military spending almost tripled over this period, from $600 million in 2021 to $1.6 billion in 2024, the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.

The spokesman reiterated that, despite Pashinyan's pledges about his commitment to the principles of territorial integrity, he congratulated the leaders of unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh with "independence" in 2023, while the Armenian Constitution still contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

"Armenia does not seek to eliminate the consequences of the long-standing conflict and is not interested in establishing lasting peace. Instead of fulfilling its obligations, including opening communications between Azerbaijan and the Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic, Yerevan is putting forward insignificant initiatives, delaying the process," Hajizadeh concluded.
