"Joining President Trump's just decision, Israel will no longer tolerate the Council's blatant antisemitism," Gideon Saar said

TEL AVIV, February 6. /TASS/. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said he notified the UN Human Rights Council of the country’s withdrawal from the organization.

"I informed the UNHRC that Israel will no longer participate in it," he wrote on X. "The 'human rights' council has consistently enabled countries that abuse human rights to evade scrutiny, while obsessively pursuing Israel."

"Joining President Trump's just decision, Israel will no longer tolerate the Council's blatant antisemitism," he added.

On February 4, Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the US from the UNHRC and the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

The UNHRC was established in 2006 by the UN General Assembly to address human rights violations. The council consists of 47 member countries that are elected directly by a majority of UNGA members, with seats distributed among regional groups. African and Asia-Pacific nations hold 13 seats, Latin American and Caribbean countries 8, Western Europe and other countries 7, and Eastern Europe 6. Members serve three-year terms and are not eligible for re-election after two consecutive terms. One-third of the members is renewed each year.
