BRUSSELS, December 25. /TASS/. Henri, the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, announced in his Christmas address that he would abdicate in favor of his son Guillaume.

"For the majority of compatriots of my age, the time has now come to step down, to retire. This is a natural process that exists for a reason and that equally applies to me," the ruler said in the address broadcast by Lux TV. "The Grand Duchy and I are happy to inform you today that Prince Guillaume and [his spouse] Princess Stephanie will be our successors beginning October 3, 2025," the head of state said.

The Grand Duke will celebrate his 70th birthday on April 16, 2025.
