Zelensky fully rules out possibility of gas transit via Ukraine — Slovak Prime Minister
Robert Fico emphasized that by blocking the continuation of gas transit, the Kiev authorities are damaging Slovakia's national economic interests and could negatively impact the European bloc as a whole
BRUSSELS, December 20. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky has entirely dismissed the possibility of continuing gas transit through Ukraine, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico told reporters after the EU summit.
"He [Zelensky] completely ruled it out and made proposals that seem absurd to me. For example, that he would agree to this [continuation of gas transit] only if we do not pay [gas suppliers] until the end of the war. What kind of fool would give us gas for free?" Fico stated.
Fico emphasized that by blocking the continuation of gas transit, the Kiev authorities are damaging Slovakia's national economic interests and could negatively impact the European bloc as a whole.
"As soon as Ukraine stops gas transit, gas will become more expensive. This will be painful for the entire EU," Fico remarked. Nevertheless, he noted, there is no unified agreement within the EU on whether to proceed with gas supplies through Ukraine.
