WASHINGTON, December 19. /TASS/. Washington should objectively and rationally assess Beijing's strategic intentions rather than keep coming up with Cold War-era reports, Liu Pengyu, a spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the United States told TASS.

"Such reports are filled with ‘Cold War’ thinking and zero-sum game mentality, which China firmly opposes," the Chinese diplomat said commenting on Pentagon’s annual report to the US Congress regarding China’s military capabilities.

"We hope the US will objectively and rationally assess China’s strategic intentions and defense construction, cease issuing irresponsible reports year after year, and take concrete actions to maintain the stable development of China-U.S. relations and military ties," he added.

The US Department of State (DoD) said in its report that the Chinese Navy Forces is currently the largest in the world and the document claims Beijing spending about "40-90% more" on military needs than it publicly admits.

The US DoD also stated in its report that China is guided by the desire to maintain close ties with Russia, despite the pressure of the collective West on Moscow and its partners over the special military operation in Ukraine.
