Trump's special envoy on Ukraine may visit Russia — news agency
It is indicated that the trip to Moscow will be aimed at gathering information, and not for the implementation of any specific political goal
NEW YORK, December 18. /TASS/. US President-elect Donald Trump's special envoy on Ukraine Keith Kellogg is ready to visit Moscow to gather information if he is invited, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.
According to the news agency, Kellogg plans to visit Kiev in January, as well as to travel to London, Paris and Rome. At the same time, it is indicated that the trip to Moscow will be aimed at gathering information, and not for the implementation of any specific political goal.
On November 27, Trump nominated Kellogg for the post of his assistant and US special envoy for Ukraine and Russia. Kellogg favors a negotiated settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. He has offered to persuade Moscow and Kiev to resume dialogue by fixing the current front line. His plan, published in April, includes the gradual lifting of sanctions and normalization of relations with Russia if Moscow accepts the peace agreement, and postponing consideration of Ukraine's membership in NATO while providing Kiev with security guarantees. Retired Lieutenant General Kellogg also criticized the actions of US President Joe Biden's administration with regard to the Ukrainian conflict, as well as the demonization of the Russian leadership by the current authorities. According to Kellogg, what is happening in Ukraine could have been avoided if Washington had acted more decisively. The 80-year-old envoy also believes that the Biden administration's approach of sending arms to Ukraine and the lack of effective diplomacy in relations with Russia have led to the prolongation of the conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin earlier listed the conditions for resolving the conflict, including the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donbass and Novorossiya, Kiev's refusal to join NATO, the lifting of all Western sanctions against Moscow and the establishment of Ukraine's non-aligned and nuclear-free status.
