BUDAPEST, December 17. /TASS/. The majority of Hungarian citizens support Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s peacekeeping efforts and oppose Western countries’ actions to deliver longer-range missiles to Ukraine for strikes deep inside Russia, according to a poll conducted by the Budapest-based Szazadveg Economic Research Institute.

The respondents also believe that the election of Donald Trump as the president of the United States provides a real opportunity to settle the Ukrainian conflict.

"The research shows that unlike leading politicians from Brussels, Hungarian society supports Orban’s efforts aimed at a ceasefire in the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," reported the organizers of the survey, which was published on the Szazadveg official website.

According to the published survey, 68% of Hungarians are in favor of the peacekeeping mission and initiatives of the country’s prime minister, while 29% oppose his policies on this issue.

Moreover, the majority of Hungarians are against any steps that escalate the conflict in Ukraine.

"Seventy-four percent of respondents expressed regret that the United States and some European countries supply Ukraine with longer-range missiles, which can be used for strikes deep into Russian territory," according to the poll.

The survey also revealed that 77% of the respondents pinned their hopes for the Ukrainian conflict settlement on the upcoming return of US President-elect Donald Trump to office. In their opinion, it represents a real chance to end military hostilities in the neighboring country in 2025.

Szazadveg specified that the survey was conducted earlier in the month, and approximately 1,000 Hungarian nationals were polled.
