Belarusian CEC receives Lukashenko’s documents to register him as a presidential candidate

The presidential election in Belarus will take place on January 26, 2025

MINSK, December 17. /TASS/. The Belarusian Central Election Commission has accepted the documents of incumbent President Alexander Lukashenko to register him as a presidential candidate in the 2025 election.

According to the BelTA news agency, Lukashenko assigned the head of his initiative group, Yury Senko, with submitting his documents to the Central Election Commission.

The CEC recalled that a person who wishes to become a presidential candidate must submit a written request for consent to run for president, a biography, documents or copies confirming information about education, work, position, and so on. An individual must collect at least 100,000 signatures from potential voters to qualify as a presidential candidate.

The presidential election in Belarus will take place on January 26, 2025. Several other individuals have submitted documents to run as presidential candidates: First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus Sergei Syrankov, Republican Party of Labor and Justice Chairman Alexander Khizhnyak, Liberal Democratic Party Chairman Oleg Gaidukevich, and entrepreneur Anna Kanopatskaya.

Earlier, CEC Chairman Igor Karpenko stated that individuals could register until December 23.
