Erdogan maintained dialogue with Putin from first moments Syrian crisis — ruling party
The spokesman for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party noted that Ankara will continue consultations on the Syrian issue with all countries in the region
ANKARA, December 16. /TASS/. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan consulted with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian officials from the very first moments of the events surrounding the regime change in Syria, Omer Celik, spokesman for Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party, told journalists during a briefing.
"If you remember, in the initial moments of these events, our president contacted Mr. Putin. He conveyed messages to Turkey and held the necessary consultations. Mr. Putin's messages about the situation were also received and assessed by us. The same consultations were held with the Iranian side. Now, it is important not to pursue the goal of domination. All countries, along with the international community, should unite in a consultative mechanism that includes both the US and Europe," Celik said.
He noted that Turkey will continue consultations on the Syrian issue with all countries in the region. "It is our duty to provide all possible support to ensure that Syria can navigate this difficult period under the leadership of the Syrian people themselves," Celik added.
According to the spokesman, "there will be attempts by some countries and forces to turn Syria into a satellite state for themselves." "Some terrorist organizations will also work in parallel to turn this place into a destroyed state. Syria must continue on its path as a state whose territorial integrity and sovereignty are respected. It should not become someone else's territory," Celik emphasized.
