Belarus wants to participate in future Ukraine peace talks, senior diplomat says
Yury Ambrazevich pointed out there was growing global demand for a diplomatic solution to the conflict due to the difficult situation Ukrainian forces were facing on the battlefield
MINSK, December 16. /TASS/. Minsk is eager to take part in future peace talks on Ukraine, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Yury Ambrazevich said.
"From the very beginning, Belarus has been taking steps to promote peace and prevent an escalation of violence in Ukraine. This is why we have been asserting from the start that we deserve a place at the negotiating table once talks on Ukraine begin. It’s important for us to receive guarantees of our own security. Final agreements should especially take Belarusian interests into account," he said at the ninth meeting of the Foreign Ministry’s Advisory Council for Belarusians Abroad.
According to the deputy foreign minister, Minsk is certainly concerned about the fact that the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine "has spilled over into Russia." Ambrazevich pointed out there was growing global demand for a diplomatic solution to the conflict due to the difficult situation Ukrainian forces were facing on the battlefield. As Ukraine’s neighbor, "Belarus is, more than anyone else, interested in resolving the conflict peacefully as soon as possible," the diplomat added.
