BEIRUT, December 12. /TASS/. The Israeli Air Force planes carried out a series of airstrikes at the outskirts of Damascus, the Al Watan newspaper reported.
According to the report, several powerful explosions were heard in multiple districts. The planes remain over the capital, maneuvering at medium altitude.
New airstrikes on the outskirts of the capital are expected.
On December 8, the Israeli forces assumed control over the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the 1974 agreement on separation of forces with Syria has lost its effect, because the Syrian forces have abandoned this region after the change of power in Damascus.
On the same day, the Kan radio reported that the Syrian aviation carried out strikes at dozens of targets in Syria, including air defense systems and ballistic missile assembly lines. According to Reuters, the strikes also hit a research center in Damascus, where Iranian specialists were allegedly developing missiles.
On December 9, Al Arabiya reported that the Israeli Air Force attacked the largest Syrian airbases and Navy ships in Latakia. Overall, over 300 strikes at Syrian territory have been carried out, according to the report.
