Leader of South Korea’s ruling party favors impeaching president
"We must stop further confusion," Han Dong-hoon said
SEOUL, December 12. /TASS/. The leader of South Korea’s ruling People Power Party (PPP) Han Dong-hoon said President Yoon Suk Yeol needs to be removed from office over his declaration of martial law last week, and impeaching him is the only way to do so, the Yonhap news agency reported.
"We must stop further confusion. There is only one effective method now," he told reporters.
When asked directly whether he supported Yoon's impeachment, Han replied briefly "Yes," adding that there is no other way, Yonhap reported.
He urged lawmakers to vote on the subject "based on their own conviction and conscience."
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol said in a televised address to the nation earlier in the day that he is ready to face an impeachment procedure or an investigation, Yonhap reported.
