Hezbollah hopes that Syria’s new government can resist Israeli attacks

TUNIS, December 11. /TASS/. Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement condemned Israel’s occupation of Syrian land and attacks on the country’s defense assets, expressing hope that the new Damascus government will manage to resist the "Israeli aggression."

"The Israeli entity’s occupation of a large swath of the Syrian territory and its attacks on its military potential are dangerous aggression that deserves condemnation," the movement said in a statement, posted on its Telegram channel. "We hope that Syria, based on the will of its people, will re-emerge capable of resisting the Israeli occupation and preventing foreign attempts to intervene into its domestic affairs."

According to Israel’s N12 television channel, 350 Israeli fighter jets have hit 320 strategic facilities of the Assad army over the day. According to the TV channel’s source, up to 80% of the Assad army’s potential, including warplanes, air defense systems, warships, production and underground facilities, munitions depots, cruise missiles, and tanks, have been destroyed.

On November 27, members of armed opposition groups launched a large-scale offensive against government forces' positions in Aleppo and Idlib Governorates. By the evening of December 7, opponents of Syrian President Bashar Assad had captured several major cities: Aleppo, Hama, Deir ez-Zor, Deraa, and Homs. They entered Damascus on December 8, after which Syrian army units withdrew from the city. The head of the Syrian government, Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali, expressed his readiness for a peaceful transfer of power in the country. Assad left office and fled the country.
