SEOUL, December 10. /TASS/. South Korea’s parliament has adopted a bill for a special probe into the martial law situation to investigate treason charges against President Yoon Suk Yeol over his martial law declaration, Yonhap reported.

He is suspected of plotting a rebellion to overthrow the constitutional order.

The bill was approved at a plenary session. Out of 287 lawmakers in attendance, 210 voted for it, 63 were against it, and 14 abstained. On December 7, the ruling People Power Party boycotted the vote on the president’s impeachment, and it was not declared as a result. People Power controls 108 seats in the parliament.

The document lists Yoon as a suspect; he is accused of "plotting a rebellion" in order to prevent the National Assembly from using its constitutional right to lift "martial law after it was declared in violation of laws and the constitution." South Korean legislation allows criminal charges to be brought against the president if he is accused of mutiny and high treason. Several law enforcement agencies are conducting the investigation, and the president is banned from leaving the country.
