Senior Georgian lawmaker denies reports saying ruling party's leader left party
The opposition television channel said earlier in the day, citing its sources, that Irakli Garibashvili was leaving the "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia"
TBILISI, December 3. /TASS/. Vice speaker of Georgia’s parliament Giya Volsky has refuted reports that leader of the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party Irakli Garibashvili quitted the party.
The opposition Mtavari television channel said earlier in the day, citing its sources, that Garibashvili was leaving the party.
"If you're asking off the record, he has not left anything. If you're asking on the record, he has not left anything. And if you're asking provocatively, I repeat once again, he has not left anything," he told Mtavari over the phone.
Garibashvili resigned as prime minister in late January after holding the post since February 2021 to take over Georgian Dream’s leadership. Kobakhizde succeeded him as prime minister. Garibashvili’s first term as prime minister was in 2013-2015. He also served as Georgia’s interior and defense minister.
