TBILISI, December 3. /TASS/. Leader of Georgia’s ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party and former Prime Minister of that country Irakli Garibashvili has quitted the party, the opposition Mtavari television channel said, citing its sources.

No further details were provided.

Garibashvili took part in sessions of the country’s new parliament after it met for its first session on October 26. According to media reports, Garibashvili, who was number three on the ruling party’s list at the elections, was expected to refuse from his seat, like Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and the party’s founder, Bidzina Ivanishvili.

Garibashvili resigned as prime minister in late January after being in office since February 2021 to take over Georgian Dream’s leadership. Kobakhizde succeeded him as prime minister. Garibashvili’s first term as prime minister was in 2013-2015. He also served as Georgia’s interior and defense minister.
