Cable in Finland ruptured accidentally during construction work — authorities
The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reported earlier that a telecommunications cable between Sweden and Finland was damaged last night
HELSINKI, December 3. /TASS/. Two ruptures of a telecommunications cable between Finland and Sweden were caused by construction work, Finland’s Transport and Communications Agency Traficom said in a press release.
The authorities conducted an investigation into the incident. "Both cables appear to have been cut during construction work," the press release reads.
The Helsingin Sanomat newspaper reported earlier that a telecommunications cable between Sweden and Finland was damaged last night. The cable was on Finnish soil.
On November 17-18, two cables in the Baltic Sea were damaged. One connects Germany to Finland, the other Sweden to Lithuania. The first cable is located near the Nord Stream pipeline, and its disruption was reported by the press service of the Finnish state operator of the Cinia telecommunications system. A spokesperson for the Swedish telecommunications company Telia later reported the disruption of the second cable. By the end of last week, both disruptions were resolved.
