No EU decision on sending troops to Ukraine yet, but all options 'still on the table' — EC
According to chief spokesperson for the European Commission Paula Pinho, this discussion has not yet taken place
BRUSSELS, December 2. /TASS/. Even as the European Union has not yet made a decision on sending troops to Ukraine, it is weighing all options, two EU officials said at a press briefing.
"If European troops are to be sent, then all of the member states will have to agree. This discussion has not yet taken place," said Paula Pinho, chief spokesperson for the European Commission.
"The EU will support Ukraine for as long as necessary and <…> clearly, all of the options are still on the table," the EU Commission spokeswoman on home affairs, migration and internal security, Anitta Hipper, said.
The two ladies did not respond to a reporter’s question about why Kaja Kallas, the EU’s new High Representative for Foreign Affairs, made a remark in Kiev about the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine without a consensus from the member states.
Kallas, former Estonian prime minister, replaced Josep Borrell as the bloc’s foreign policy chief on December 1. Later on Sunday, she travelled to Kiev with President of the European Council Antonio Costa. The European media reported that, during her visit, Kallas said discussions on sending troops to Ukraine were ongoing. According to her, Europe should consider deploying troops to Ukraine if a potential ceasefire agreement requires international oversight.
