Iran's Revolutionary Guards call ceasefire with Israel humiliating defeat for Israel
Lieutenant General Hossein Salami deemed it "a great victory achieved thanks to the bravery and courage of the Lebanese people"
DUBAI, November 28. /TASS/. Israel's agreement on a ceasefire in Lebanon indicates that it recognized its defeat in the conflict with the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah, Lieutenant General Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC, Iran's elite military units), said.
"The ceasefire on the Lebanese front is a strategic and humiliating defeat for the Zionist regime, which did not even come close to achieving any of its evil goals and ambitions in the war against Hezbollah. It [the Israeli-Lebanese agreement on the ceasefire] could even mark the beginning of a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza," Salami wrote in a message to Hezbollah Secretary General Sheikh Naim Qassem, its text published by the IRGC press office.
Salami congratulated Qassem on the ceasefire, calling it "a great victory achieved thanks to the bravery and courage of the Lebanese people," and paying tribute to the courage of Hezbollah fighters in confronting Israel.
The agreement on the first ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon since the beginning of hostilities on October 7, 2023, entered into force at 04:00 local time (05:00 Moscow time) on November 27, in accordance with a joint initiative of the United States and France. The document envisages the gradual deployment of Lebanese military units along the southern border with the support of the UN Interim Force in Lebanon. In turn, Israel is to gradually pull back its troops from southern Lebanon over the next 60 days.
