MOSCOW, November 27. /TASS/. Verkhovna Rada member Alexander Merezhko has nominated US President-elect Donald Trump for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, the Ukrainian online news website 24th Channel has said with reference to the legislator’s letter to the Nobel Committee.

According to the website, in his letter Merezhko wrote that "Trump has made a significant contribution to world peace" and that he can accomplish even more in the future. The lawmaker cited Trump's mediation of agreements between Israel and Muslim countries during his first term as an example.

"Trump also laid the groundwork for today's international coalition of support for Ukraine by demonstrating global leadership in arms supplies," the media resource quotes Merezhko as saying, noting that the MP was most likely referring to Trump's "decision to supply Ukraine with Javelin anti-tank missiles" during his first term.

Merezhko himself explained in a comment to Ukrainian news outlet the Kyiv Independent that in nominating Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, he sought to "get the Republican president-elect's attention so that he can help Ukraine survive."

Earlier, The Washington Post, citing sources in Kiev, wrote that Ukrainian politicians and businessmen were making attempts to persuade Trump to provide military aid to Ukraine in exchange for the country's energy resources and minerals. Naftogaz CEO Alexey Chernyshov promised the US big returns from the sale of Ukrainian energy resources, while the Verkhovna Rada's adviser on economic issues, Vladimir Vasilyuk, said that Ukrainian minerals, including lithium, critical to the modern high-tech industry, should be given away to the Americans. According to the newspaper, Ukrainian politicians also assure Trump that supporting Ukraine would help him achieve his political goals. At the same time, the newspaper notes that Vladimir Zelensky will have a hard time persuading Trump to continue aiding Ukraine, as the new American leader's inner circle - Vice-President James David Vance and entrepreneur Elon Musk - say that it makes no sense to support Kiev's military plans.

Earlier, Trump repeatedly said that in case of his election victory he would quickly resolve the conflict in Ukraine even before his inauguration, for which he has a concrete plan.
