BEIRUT, November 27. /TASS/. In a phone conversation with US President Joe Biden, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the ceasefire with Israel that would bring stability to his country’s border with Israel, the Lebanese government’s press service said.

"I view this document as a roadmap for ceasefire and approve this important step towards security and stability in Lebanon," he said, adding that the deal would "enable the return of displaced persons to their cities and homes."

"The implementation of the agreement will help to bring stability to the region," Mikati added.

"I reaffirm Lebanon’s commitment to implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and its determination to strengthen the Lebanese army’s presence in the south of the country, in cooperation with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon," Mikati said.

He called upon Israel to withdraw its troops from all occupied regions and to observe UNSC Resolution 1701.

Provisions of the agreement

According to the Al Nahar newspaper the deal will come into force on the morning of November 27. The document envisages gradual deployment of Lebanese military units along all national borders and crossings. In turn, Israel is to gradually pull back its troops to the Israeli-Lebanese border over the next 60 days.

Israel and Lebanon consented to creating a committee to observe implementation of UNSC Resolution 1701.

Lebanon’s pro-Iranian Shia militia, Hezbollah, and all other armed groups operating on the country’s territory, are not to engage in any offensive operations against Israel. Israel is to refrain from any military activities against targets in Lebanon. However, both parties retain their unalienable right for self-defense.

The Lebanese government will undertake the commitment to act against illegal armed groups on its territory and to curb their ability to arm themselves by cracking down on arms trafficking. All illegal arms production facilities are to be destroyed; all stockpiles of illegally manufactured weapons and ammunition are to be confiscated.

Israel and Lebanon will report all violations to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and to the committee overseeing implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

The United States will facilitate indirect talks between Israel and Lebanon, aimed at settling the existing border issues.
