MOSCOW, November 26. /TASS/. If Ukraine were to hold its presidential election some time soon, former Commander-in-Chief and now Ambassador to the UK Valery Zaluzhny would be the country's new leader, says a poll carried out by the Social Monitoring analytical center and obtained by the local media.

According to the poll, 27% of respondents would vote for Zaluzhny, while only 16% said they would stick with Vladimir Zelensky. Lower on the totem pole were ex-president Pyotr Poroshenko (7%) and head of military intelligence Kirill Budanov (included in the list of terrorists and extremists in Russia) with just 6%.

Additionally, 15% of respondents were undecided, while 10% said they would rather not take part in the election at all.

The poll took place on November 15-21 and covered 1,200 respondents; the margin of error was 1.8%-2.9%.

Ukraine was supposed to hold a parliamentary election in October of last year, and a presidential election in March of this year. The authorities explained that the elections did not take place because of martial law, but many experts have noted that only the parliament’s duties should be prolonged in case of martial law, not the president’s. Thus, Zelensky’s legitimacy as president is in question, because, under Ukrainian law, his term expired on May 21.

On November 19, Zelensky once again stated that there will be no elections in Ukraine during martial law.
